I've always found it odd that so many women are obsessed with "true crime". I have listened to some true crime podcasts and most disgusted me with their sensationalist, fake-dramatics that prioritize a story arc over good journalism. (Not that they're journalists, but it's akin to journalism.) I did interview one true crime podcaster who focuses on little known cold cases, and she did seem to strive to give dignity to the victims. But you're right, far too much true crime focuses on a certain demographic and disregard unpopular realities like urban gun deaths.

I've never read Helter Skelter and probably never will. But you have an interesting take on it.
