I started this Substack after parting ways with my first agent. It’s helped me decide what to do next. For cynics, that can be tough. Twenty years of police work hardens a man. Dims expectation. Though I’d written a novel I believed in, I didn’t think a major agent with a legendary house would take me on. But in February I signed with Alec Shane of Writers House. The novel’s out on submission (I may have mentioned that). More importantly, I’ve made friends. I’m in a better place professionally and emotionally.
But this is still about getting work into the world.
My story “Club Night” is included in Rock and a Hard Place’s eleventh issue. This is the third work of mine they’ve published. RHP is a lit-noir journal run by a team of passionate editors. I’m proud to be among their contributors. It’s available now, and I hope you’ll give it a read.
This marks my fifth published work. Reaffirms to me that maybe, just maybe, I can do the thing.
I hope you’ll stick around, see what else is coming down the pike.
